William “Will” Shelton
The Family of William “Will” Shelton
Possum Trot Road Source: Family of Lee and Fannie Shelton Cathey
Origins
William S. Shelton was born in or about 1869 in Rome, Georgia and was raised within the Shelton family’s life on the land. His early years were shaped by the rhythms of farm life and family labor during a period of transition.
Migrations
By 1880, William was living at Possum Trot, where, at a young age, he was already contributing to the family as a farm laborer. His life, like that of many in this generation, remained closely tied to the land during these early years.
Family
Little is known about William’s later life. He does not appear in census records after 1880, and his path beyond this time remains uncertain.
His story reflects both presence and absence—one of many lives shaped by a period in which records were often incomplete and histories not fully preserved.
His early years were rooted in the land, his path thereafter held in silence and memory.
This story continues to unfold through records, memory, and ongoing research.
