Rhoda “Rhody” Shelton Drew

The Family of John and Rhoda Shelton Drew

Possum Trot Road Source: Hill Family - Lee and Fannie Shelton Cathey

Origins

Rhoda “Rhody” Shelton was born in or about 1863 in Rome, Georgia and was raised within the Shelton family’s life on the land in Coosa. Her early years were shaped by the same environment of labor, family, and transition that defined this generation.

Migrations

Rhoda remained closely connected to the family settlement, where she continued her life into adulthood. Her path reflects one that stayed rooted in place, grounded in the land and community that shaped her upbringing.

Family

On December 23, 1880, Rhoda married John Drew, and together they are believed to have remained on the family settlement. Her life appears to have been brief, as records suggest she passed sometime in or before 1887.

Following her passing, John Drew later remarried and established a home elsewhere, marking a transition that reflects the changes that followed her early death.

Her path remained close to home, rooted in place and family, before ending too soon.

This story continues to unfold through records, memory, and ongoing research.
