Origins

Judy Shelton was born in or about 1871 in Coosa, Georgia and was raised within the Shelton family’s life on the land. Her early years reflect a childhood shaped by family, labor, and the transition into a new way of life following emancipation.

Migrations

By 1880, Judy was living at Possum Trot with her family, where she remained part of the household during her early years. Her life, like that of others in this generation, was closely tied to the land and the rhythms of family life.
