Judy Shelton

The Family of Judy Shelton

Possum Trot Road Source: Family of Lee and Fannie Shelton Cathey

Origins

Judy Shelton was born in or about 1871 in Coosa, Georgia and was raised within the Shelton family’s life on the land. Her early years reflect a childhood shaped by family, labor, and the transition into a new way of life following emancipation.

Migrations

By 1880, Judy was living at Possum Trot with her family, where she remained part of the household during her early years. Her life, like that of others in this generation, was closely tied to the land and the rhythms of family life.

Family

Little is known about Judy’s later life. She does not appear in census records after 1880, and her path beyond that time remains uncertain.

Her story reflects the reality of many whose lives were not fully captured in historical records, yet whose presence remains part of the family’s legacy.

Her early years were held within the family and the land, her path thereafter left to memory.

This story continues to unfold through deeper connections, names, and discoveries still being brought to light.
